Forms of verbs Phrasal & prepositional verbs
Phrasal verbs consist of a verb plus a particle, an adverb. The particle can change the meaning of the verb completely. The particle is placed either after the verb or after the object.
I looked this restaurant up.
I looked up this restaurant.
If the object is a pronoun, the particle has to be placed after the pronoun.
I looked it up.
Prepositional verbs consist of a verb plus a preposition. Prepositional verbs cannot be separated!
I'm looking for my mobile phone.
I'm looking for it.
Phrasal prepositional verbs consist of a verb plus an adverb plus a preposition. Like prepositional verbs they cannot be separated.
I'm going to look in on the manager.
