Sentences & syntax Questions
Direct questions often start with a question word or an auxiliary verb. You use them to ask people you already know.
Where is the market?
Am I going the right way?
Indirect questions are more polite.
Excuse me, can you tell me where the market is?
Do you happen to know ...?
You can also use a statement rather than a "real" question that invites to give more information:
I wonder where the market is.
Questions with hanging preposition are commonly used in spoken English:
What is this made with?
What are we waiting for?
